There's no denying it -- summer is here. Amid a flurry of graduations and other celebratory events, the temperature in New Orleans has been steadily creeping towards the 90's. Once we hit July and August the heat will be a constant, which is why planning a beach trip is key to managing day-to-day in the deep south.
All of my favorite magazines are featuring beach houses and bikinis, and Garden and Gun just released their June/July issue which is dedicated to thoroughly southern beach escapes. The cover alone is enough to have me packing my bags.
I love features where celebrities dump out their purses and expose the contents for readers to see. Because it's summer, and this post is about the beach, I asked everybody at work today what they pack when they take off for the shore. This is what I learned:
Amanda is the CEE (chief executive everything) at Studio Amanda Talley, and spends a lot of time at the beach -- she does the bulk of her painting at her Pass Christian home, which is right down the street from the gulf coast beach.
Jason is an independent artist and also works as our framer at the gallery -- of our beautiful custom painted frames are made right here, by Jason!
I am in charge of special sales and projects at Studio Amanda Talley -- if you need to buy wallpaper, fabric or accessories, you'll be working with me!
- Sunglasses (I've bought the same pair three times)
- Goggles. I actually like to swim in the gulf or ocean, and always throw goggles in the beach bag because I wear contacts and can only swim with goggles.
- Towels. It is plural because I have children and they use what feels like five towels apiece. Mine are all from the 1990's.
- Sunscreen I use Neutrogena on my face and spray sunscreen on the rest of me.
Julieta is a second-year social media and marketing intern at the studio and is entering her junior year at LSU this fall. We love Julieta's energy and ideas, and especially how she taught us how to Snapchat! Julieta believes in beach simplicity...

Macy is our high school intern and is a rising junior at Louise S. McGehee School. A three sport varsity athlete, Macy has two younger sisters along on most of her beach trips..
Collin is the gallery director at Studio Amanda Talley and a budding astrologer. He loves the beach, especially Alys Beach; although he is also fond of desert vacations in Palm Springs. Read his beach list below!
Zephyr the dog
Small, cheap beach umbrella purchased 6 years ago that I've managed to keep and bring on every beach trip
I hope you've enjoyed peeking in our beach bags, and would love to know what you carry!
